Camp Meriwether celebrated its 100th Anniversary this year, and four of our Historical Society members were excited to join in the celebration this past weekend!
In addition to the opening of a time capsule, we enjoyed a fascinating guided history tour and a visit to the pop-up museum, filled with memorabilia and artifacts collected over the years by so many people who have been part of Camp Meriwether’s story. We also enjoyed a lovely lunch and the opportunity to celebrate 100 years of memories and history.
We were especially excited to see how our Historical Society has been able to help preserve and share the history of this special place. We published a book featuring Orlo Chamberlain’s recollections of the Chamberlain Homestead—the property that would eventually become Boy Scout Camp Meriwether. And, just this year, through a wonderful partnership with the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum, we digitized an oral history recorded during Camp Meriwether’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
It was wonderful to be part of the 100th Anniversary and to celebrate not only Camp Meriwether’s history, but also the many people who have worked over the years to preserve its stories for future generations. What a special weekend!
