Description
Author and illustrator Daniel Strite started work for The Whitney Company in 1919 and continued until the company closed in 1927. In addition to the original work by Mr Strite, printed in the Oregon Historical Society Quarterly in the 1970s, this book also includes an entertaining booklet titled “How to Become a Logger”, which Mr Strite wrote to his wife Bea. It also includes additional photos obtained from historical sources.
The book takes you from Kilchis Point up the Kilchis river to the Blue Star Camp at top of the ridge, then ending at the Whitney Mill in Garibaldi. Logging of the coastal Kilchis River in Tillamook County in the early 20th century involves moving logs by tugboat and railroad. The book tells of a time of steam logging with first-hand descriptions of life in a logging camp and work in a lumber mill.
